Roads and paths with an artificial surface or other fixed, artificial objects entitle you to free relief if they interfere with the ball’s lie, your stance or your swing (not if they only interfere with the line of play).

To take relief, locate the nearest point where you can take your stance and swing without interference from the obstruction and drop the ball within 1 club-length.
In the illustration below, point A is the nearest point. There is no interference in the case of point B either, but this spot is further away from the ball’s original position.

Please note — it is possible that the nearest point will be in a bush, in the rough or on a slope. It may then be advisable to play the ball as it lies.
Relief is not given from objects which mark out of bounds. Furthermore, Local Rules can declare certain objects as being an integral part of the course. Relief is not given if this is the case.
